We Are Alive!

Wow, it’s been too long.

Have I STILL not blogged about our last November trip to London? Maybe I’ll get to it before our next November trip, ha! Mom-ing ain’t easy ya’ll.

I’m pretty sure my last post included a photo of me looking pretty decent in a gym mirror in Bremerhaven. Well…. that ended quickly because I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant and feeling like a f’ing moose. Yep — baby kuhn #2 coming early December!

The happiest big sister ever!

A lot has happened since my last post, which was around Christmas time. Shortly after Christmas we were walking through the mall when Jerry got the phone call he had worked so so so hard for. A new team called wanting to sign Jerry for this upcoming season. We were in shock, it was really early but Jerry was having an incredible season that was not going unnoticed…. we were so excited!

That team was, Wolfsburg (Germany)!

It was so unbelievably hard to keep this secret for so long!

Speaking of hockey — Jerry and the Fischtown Pinguins made some serious history! It was their first year in the league and they made it to playoffs. Something I’m sure no one saw coming at the beginning of the season. On top of making playoffs, Jerry was nominated for Goalie of The Year! We were so proud of him. That last month of hockey was something special and something I will truly never forget. So many happy tears and a lot of f-bombs during games. It made Bremerhaven that much harder to say goodbye too. Our last week in B-haven was emotional and full of tough “see ya laters”… it holds a lot of special things for us, Andi has grown up there for two years, we found our best friends there, and Jerry played his first full DEL season there. We will miss you fischy town but you are just a hop skip and jump away. ❤

THE BEST FANS — we rocked that rink so hard those last few weeks!

And to end the season….. Uncle Jerry & Harbor Rae Lampl-Kuhn. The best of friends, forever.

Our summer flew by but here are a few highlights:

-Uncle DJ Graduated from WMU

-Andi went to her first Tigers game

-ANDI TURNED TWO!

-Jerry won his second GOLD medal with team USA inline!

  • -Jerry and I celebrated FOUR years of marriage!

In very very very short, that brings us to now. A few days ago we packed 5 hockey bags, 1 carry on, 3 back packs, 2 car seats, 2 strollers and a dog and we hopped on a plane to Wolfsburg! It was so hard to say goodbye to my family and friends that have grown so close to Andi this summer. Luckily we have people in our life who understand our journey.

Here’s to our SIXTH year in Europe.

We are so excited to be here and looking forward to making many good memories here in Wolfsy! So far we have had a very warm welcome from the Grizzly staff and team/families. ❤

I’ll try to keep in touch. I have no idea how I even found the time to write this. I miss this little space! August will be a very busy month for Jer and we won’t be seeing much of him as his preseason schedule is stacked. Andi will be heading back to school next week and I’ll be hopefully heading into a gym….or my bed, a girl can dream though.

Be good to us hockey season, auf gehts!

Mini Amsterdam – Groningen

Hi there!

Yes, I’m alive. (#momlife)… I’ve been neglecting this space and I miss it. I’ve promised myself to get on here and write at least once a month. I always have people mentioning they love that I have all of this too look back on and in the back of my head I’m sad that I haven’t got to writing much this “year” or  rather,”season” as we hockey families refer to years. I have a draft on here for London, life update, breastfeeding, the list goes on… I’m the worst!

Andi and I (and Jerry) are so lucky to have found friends here in Bremerhaven that we consider family. Andi’s babysitter and her family have been wonderful to us all year. I just wish we would have met them sooner (last season) because they have truly been a blessing to us. Liia is Andi’s babyistter, I don’t even really like referring to her as that because she’s so much more than that!… they have the cutest little relationship.

Andi and Liia on Christmas:

15727224_10209695585604459_5446952087677890523_n

We had planned to head down to Augsburg (about 30 minutes from Munich) to watch Jerry’s team play Liia’s dad’s  (he is the assistant coach in Augsburg) team back in January. It’s not very close and would have been a lot for just a couple of days. So, we settled on going to Groningen (Netherlands). I’ve been dying to head that way so we made a girls trip out of it while the boys were out of town. Groningen is about 2 hours from here (1 hour before Amsterdam).

We stayed at the cutest little hotel right in the city (The Student Hotel). It is actually half hotel/half short-term lodging for students. SO many students in Groningen from all over the world! It was great to hear people speaking English for a change.  We didn’t need anything special as we were just spending the night. The decor throughout the entire hotel was beyond amazing! The rooms are decorated as if you are in a dorm room. A really cute dorm room! There is a restaurant downstairs that has an amazing breakfast and at night you can get drinks at the bar. At night all of the college kids were downstairs hanging out in the common areas, drinking beers & doing homework. Overall, great place! AND to my surprise… very very quiet.

16194984_10209959155833550_5596188503209037256_n16143006_10209959155313537_443136045387212262_n

The hotel is in the perfect location so after Andi was in bed, Liia stayed with her so Anke and I could grab some drinks. There are some cute bars very close to the hotel.

De Garage – So cute! Renovated space in an old garage (hence, the name).. and throughout the week they do a “pot luck” style lunch. They were closing but the nice lady let us come in and have a beer.

16265832_10209959155153533_863949121393044211_n

De Toeter – An amazing whiskey bar! Over 300 whiskeys to try and over 100 different beers! Definitely a spot to hit in Groningen if you are looking for a fun time.

16114670_10209959156313562_5677374160729158052_n

We had the whole next day to explore! It was still pretty cold out but we were more than happy that the SUN was shining!!!

16142518_10209959162313712_975554755761324953_n

I was dying to check out this “kids” store that’s home base is in Groningen (A Little Lovely Company)… it is every bit of lovely! I’ve followed them on Instagram for a long time. So I was happy I finally got to check it out for myself! They have two stores in Groningen. If you have kids, the flagship store is a must stop. They have a play area for kids and a mini cafe for coffee and relaxing! I wanted to live in this store….or buy everything.

16298542_10209959161073681_5550942494230210575_n16266086_10209959161193684_1303010027793982369_n16195149_10209959165233785_3079645497824311231_n

AMAZING! Right!? Check out the link to the store I posted above. You won’t be disappointed.

Groningen is a lot like Amsterdam. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with Amsterdam….so that is quite a compliment. Canals, coffee shops (and by coffee, I mean joints), amazing stores, great restaurants, delicious cafes, bikes & more bikes… everything good. The Dutch people do everything right! Not to mention they are all very, very nice people. I just LOVE everything about the Netherlands. I have nothing negative to say about that country. Whenever I’m in the Netherlands, I hope to never leave. I fall in love a little more each time.

16115032_10209959163713747_7567777761700867573_n16143154_10209959163473741_1117484648127685821_n16195865_10209959158433615_2264761041297562484_n

I’m so happy we did a mini trip with Liia and Anke! It made for good memories that we will never forget.

I traveled a lot before Andi came along and it was great, really great. But… there is something so so so special about doing all of this with her. One day I hope she looks back at all of these memories and it makes her smile. I hope it pushes her to travel and maybe even visit all the places she was when she was little and living in Europe. We are lucky, that’s for sure. ❤

Until next time, Netherlands!

What Day Is It?

I truly never know what day it is. I guess we call that, #stayathomemomprobs. I woke up on Wednesday and thought it was Friday. So, that’s that. Here we are, it’s December… and we’ve done a lot since I last posted. Halloween, LONDON!!!, Thanksgiving and now it’s almost Christmas… a lot to catch up on.

One of our favorite markets,”Freimarkt” is in October in our bigger city, Bremen. It basically represents the beginning of the fall/autumn season. Very similar to our Christmas markets minus all the Christmas-y stuff. So we get to enjoy hot wine a little before the christmas markets begin!

14642238_10209025120763257_1910066297757634840_n

We have always carved pumpkins one night in October as a tradition. Then we bake all the pumpkin seeds and drink wine! This year we added a member (Harbor) and let her join in on our pumpkin carving.

What she really did was: eat all my fruit and watch all my cartoons.

What we told her mom she did: carved the best pumpkin ever!

No surprise that andi was happy to dig her hands into the pumpkin and pull out all the guts. The child loves being messy.

We got to celebrate Halloween the night before we left for London! Surprisingly German peeps are really starting to get into the “American Halloween”. The stores have Halloween stuff (costumes, candy, decorations). It’s fun to see people getting into the holiday in a different country where it isn’t really celebrated. Andi was the cutest puppy dog! We had Taco Night with our Lampls and by then our babies were ready for bed and we had to finish packing anyways. I loved seeing everyone’s kids dressed up on social media, so fun!

14910399_10209163045291284_9023438809232311376_n

Our original flight to London was bright and early the following day but got cancelled in the middle of the night and got pushed back to later on. It was a bit of a bummer to the start of our trip but we made it work! I will do a completely separate post for London. I could probably do 10 posts on London but I will spare you from too much information. London needs a hockey team ASAP and to hire my husband. Because, I’m IN LOVE. Jerry is going to laugh when he reads this, because I seriously fall in love with every place we visit. But, I fall in love with them in different ways.

Anyways, London is an amazing place and I can’t wait to share what we got to see and do while we were there!

14908165_10209174204010245_1907712893525316508_n.jpg

We celebrated “Martins Tag” with Andi’s classmates and school. All of the kids make “lanterns” and we went through park singing songs to celebrate St. Martin. At the end we had tea and pretzels (naturally). It was really special to me to partake in a german tradition with Andi and her school.

14955921_10209262177169519_580781921944106253_n14962676_10209253838281052_3332262331549939209_n

Our Miika girl turned FIVE! Can you believe it? Actually some days I feel like she’s ten and I’ve had her my whole life. So far miika has spent her birthday’s in Slovenia (2 years), Italy, and her last two birthdays have been here in Germany! Lucky dog.

I had planned for Andi to throw some confetti and get this super cute photo but … that was a fail. So here is Andi, crying at Miika’s birthday party.

Happy Birthday Miika Kuhn!

We had a chill Thanksgiving this year. Andi wasn’t feeling great (thank you, school) and Jerry had a game the next day. Hockey life at it’s finest y’all. My bestie, baker extraordinaire,  made us pumpkin pie and apple crisps so, we were happy. I did my annual Skype the fam at night-time. Of course they were all disappointed because Andi was sleeping already. Schedules people, schedules! Can’t believe this is my 6th holiday season away from home. Sadly, it’s starting to not really phase me anymore. It used to be much harder on me. I think the fact that we have started to create our own traditions has made it  easier for us.

15241240_10209364449726269_3847667165203544608_n

The past couple of Saturdays I’ve been taking Andi up to the rink to see Jerry after his practice. I’m glad I have been.. the first time she was freaking out about the ice (I mean it’s a little intimidating!) and she still gets a little nervous around Jerry in all of his big gear. Last weekend she was ready to full on jump on the ice! Can’t wait for Andi to get her first skates and get out there one day.

15170774_10209379740188521_5584696186680521212_n

It’s hard to believe it’s December and were just a short time from Christmas! We have our tree up but someone’s little hands keep taking all the ornaments off. I won’t mention any names. We have been enjoying our Christmas market and all the yummy gluhwein (not andi, she sticks to her water cup)! But she suckered her dad into letting her try a candy cane and now she’s addicted!

15219563_10209436261281513_7770151411044370326_n15284191_10209425619055464_9105840604381083061_n

Last weekend Andi and I went to her babysitters house to make cookies with her and her mom! It was a great time! Andi was surprisingly behaved for not being in her own house. It felt so good to walk into a nice, cozy home. For a little while I felt like I was “home”. Andy’s babysitter never really gets to see her since by the time she gets to my house on game nights Andi is tucked away in bed. So it was so cute to see them together!

15349769_10209454928988194_5733071769075175666_n

I found myself feeling a little down in the dumps, slightly depressed and having little episodes of anxiety. All things I have never really expereinced, especially feeling depressed. So, I truly didn’t know what route to take. We don’t see the sun much here, I learned that last year. So, this little fam is all fuled up on Vitamin D. It can suck the life out of you when you don’t get any sunshine! Also, I know that many changes were/are happening in my body since I stopped breastfeeding andi 2 months ago. On top of that I think life has just changed drastically since having a baby and I’m really trying to find my way right now. That can be a little overwhelming. No one ever talks about that stuff and I didn’t ever expect to have any of these feelings. I think it’s something that should be talked about because I know that it isn’t just me.

Anyways, I had only been to the gym about 3 times total since having Andi. If you remember… I worked out until I was about 37 weeks pregnant and then I couldn’t breathe easily anymore, lol. Even after that I walked 4 miles a day. I didn’t know if I was really missing the gym and thought it wasn’t really my thing anymore. I was totally wrong. I got back into the gym about a month or so ago. It took Jerry going with me on his day off for me to realize that it was what I needed back in my life again. Luckily my hubs writes me everything to do before I go. I miss my workouts with him but enjoying it as my own thing now. I’m going 3 or 4 days a week and I’m finally starting to feel a little bit better. Much different from the way I was feeling a few weeks ago.

And incase anyone needs proof: here’s me feeling better at the gym.

15417059_10209528659271405_1309821141_n

We are halfway through the hockey season which is insane! Time is flying. It has been really amazing to watch all of Jerry’s hard work from this summer show in his hockey games. We are proud of him, always.

15400577_684752055018856_5211303106128000886_n

Now it’s time to get Christmas presents wrapped and under the tree. Where does the time go?! We have our team Christmas party next week which is always a nice time for everyone and this weekend the girls on the team are doing our own little “white elephant” christmas party, wine included. Should be a great time!

I’m so glad I got on here to catch up a bit (can you believe this small post was created over three days…..lol, #momlife). I just don’t have the time like I used to but I want to make sure that I have things to look back on. I always go back in read my old posts and most of them put a smile on my face. So, it’s important that I do small posts like this (even if I’m the only one reading). Next, some London posts – so I don’t forget all the great spots we got to see!

I hope that everyone takes some time to enjoy the holiday season. I know it can get stressful and we forget to just sit back and relax. But it’s important to find the time to enjoy the “holiday cheer”.

XO

Summer To Fall

It’s been very quiet over here because we’ve been enjoying our LONG summer. To our (very big) surprise, we had two months of pure sunshine here in Bremerhaven. Everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. We were outside all afternoon soaking up every inch of sun. We knew that it wasn’t going to last forever and that rainy Bremerhaven days were just around the corner. Andi loves the sunshine and enjoyed playing outside with the kids every day.

We stumbled across a farmers market here that is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, year round! It’s great for fresh flowers, fruit, eggs… meat…. or just a nice walk through to catch some fresh air with the kids.

Ellie and I got to enjoy our first game with NO babies! Thank you, babysitters! It was a crazy feeling but felt good for this mama to get out. Friday night games are way to late for baby Andi who hits the hay at 7 PM. Wine, please!

A lot has changed at the Kuhn house since I last wrote. I have officially stopped nursing Andi, it’s been over a month now since we stopped. I’m sure my family still can’t believe it but it’s true! I woke up one morning and decided it was time. Cutting out nursing little by little wasn’t working for us. So unfortunately for Andi, it was cold turkey for her on the boob milk. I have a post saved in my drafts to talk all about this so I’ll keep this part short. It’s getting harder for me to post personal things now.  I’ve become more private, quiet and less opinionated. Part of growing up? Yes (maybe some other people should take notes?). But also something that has happened to me over the past five years of being an expat. So I keep blogs and never post them. Anyways, Andi did great and we made it!

Naturally, a few days after I cut out nursing Andi got very very very sick. So sick that we ended up at the hospital one night at 3 AM with a 104 degree fever. She was tested for everything and all they could tell us was that she had a 7-10 virus because everything came back negative. Which is great but.. we were worried about her. She had a fever for NINE days! It was awful. We enjoyed the snuggles and really enjoyed learning all the words to Peppa Pig (sarcasm). Andi got better on the 10th day and finally woke up with no fever but a heavy addiction to a pacifier. UGH!!!!!

14463108_10208816617950817_7790686545263861882_n

We kept andi home from school one extra day to make sure she was 100% – we got out and headed downtown to enjoy the sunshine and Fish & Chips with daddy! He usually has Monday’s off so we like to spend the day with him. This little chick LOVES fish. Which is.. great!

AND THEN WE BLINKED… AND IT WAS FALL!

It’s officially fall here in Bremerhaven. Were barely hitting 60 degrees and the sun is going down so early that we can barely keep our eyes open past 5PM.

With fall weather in Germany comes… festival season! Yup, food, beers, chocolate, ferris wheels… need I say more?

The girls and I hit up our first festival this past weekend while the boys were out of town!  “Kramerfest” in Oldenburg.

14502849_10208948912978110_7457892332615217081_n14606479_10208948916858207_4844866484687097880_n

Fall weather = Fall clothes!

Seriously.. these little girls are beyond beautiful… how’d we get so lucky?!

14650251_10208945524693405_828662814565846475_n

Today I had a meeting with one of Andi’s teachers and they say she is doing great. Her teacher said she loves to observe and watch what all the other kids are doing and then she follows. A couple of weeks ago they sent home her sippy cups because she is drinking out of a regular cup at breakfast and lunch with them. She seems to learn something new every week and always comes home doing the cutest things!

14484951_10208863716888261_7126879034044955098_n

We are missing family and friends back home but love being able to keep in touch with everyone thanks to FaceTime. Andi loves calling Oma & Opa… okay, mostly Uncle Zach (since Uncle DJ is busy finishing up his last year at college!!!). We know before we know it, it’ll be summer again.

I hope to catch up again before the next season, (blah) winter hits us. But I’m sure I will be since we are heading to …. LONDON! For our November break this year. Stay tuned! ❤

Sending love and hugs to everyone back home.

Baby Andi – 6 Months … Going on 7!

How is this baby half a year old already?

Actually in 10 days we will have a 7 month old already! Wow! Last week Andi had her 6 month shots and check up! It was on a Monday (daddy’s day off) so he was able to join us. Andi didn’t like shots in both thighs but I’m sure she is secretly happy we are done with shots until we get back to Germany in July!

6 Month Check up & Shots!

6 MONTH STATS:

Weight: 19 LBS!

Length: 25.5 Inches

Diaper Size: 4+ (lol)

Clothes: Andi is mostly in 9 month PJ’s and 6-9 “clothes” (onesies, t-shirts, leggings)

Fun things: sitting up alone, grabbing toys, eating fun snacks, loves watching her dog, passed first session of swim classes and is on to her 6 month-12 month classes next week!

Andi’s schedule: (currently, since we all know babies love to switch it up) Andi goes down around 7 or 8 PM, sleeps until around 4-430 wakes up to nurse and hang for a little then back to sleep until 8-9 AM. After this we pretty much do a “eat, play, sleep” routine… naps aren’t frequent and haven’t been almost ever, but I’m starting to see a better nap routine. Mix in a few walks with the pup in there too! Andi loves naping in her stroller.

12508889_10206872796796503_7131696645331562646_n.jpg

First day in her big girl seat of her stroller!

Andi still can’t find a bottle that she likes to drink boob milk out of so that has been stressful. Probably the most difficult thing so far. It would be much easier if she would take a bottle so I know for a fact she’d be fine alone with Jerry for a little bit. But, table foods and purees can do the trick too. I made it to my first gym class this week and it was amazing! Were going to try for me 2-3 days a week for now. Since, I also have Andi’s swim class once a week.  Andi is not a big “food” eater… she relies mostly on my breasts and food is just fun for her. She has her days when she will eat a whole cup of veggies or fruits and other days she will not touch it.

12509430_10206854764825715_2861679324569641818_n

Some days babies just want to nap on their mamas! ❤

We were at Ikea a couple of weeks ago and Andi was being a bit fussy. I thought, let’s try out the cart… oh boy, she LOVED it.

12400506_10206788634772505_7811152725332207164_n-1

We also had a visitor last week! V came to see us and spend a few days with us. She comes to visit every season since we met back in Ljubljana. This year was a bit different but we still managed to have some fun with a baby in tow! In a couple of weeks my grandma is coming to stay with us for 10 days! That will be so nice. Wish my mom was joining her but she wasn’t able to swing it this season.

12400701_10206838541500142_6399231698942100783_n

This big girl started sitting up alone and loves playing on the floor with her toys. In the morning she “watches” 20 minutes of Nursery Rhymes from Baby Genius (keep comments to yourself about baby watching TV). She LOVES listening to people sing (especially her swim teacher) and it keeps her occupied for a whole 20 minutes! That means I can make my breakfast and coffee and then scarf it down. 🙂  She loves her Jolly Jumper (seriously, life save… get one ASAP for your baby!)

Every day I’m learning new things about Andi and myself. We have great days and we have bad days (like so bad I think she never wants a sibling 😉 haha). She has definitely changed my entire life, in the best way. Watching her and her papa love on each other is the best. I remember that first month and thinking “how am I going to do this” and now here I’am almost 7 months later… I may not have it all figured out but I think I got it down! Most days I don’t get out of my yoga pants or brush my hair and I only put on make up on game days but that is totally okay with me.

With my pregnancy brain turning into mom brain I decided to buy a journal, to write everything down. Just like I did when I was pregnant. I hate thinking “wait, when did Andi do ____ again”? and not being able to remember when she did it last. I’m excited to have a journal to look back on for all of these memories (aside from this blog) but there are things I just rather not share on here and keep to myself!

This cute bonnet is from “Briar Handmade”.  My GF here is obsessed with them and has slowly passed her obsession on to me! We love them.

Cheers to another month of growing and learning – full of giggles, smiles, tears and long nights.

We love you baby Andi.

Now, off to nap and the bath time before daddy’s hockey game! Go Pinguins!

Stay tuned for what this little nugget is up to next! ❤

Baby Andi – 3 Month Update

3 MONTHS!?

Actually… 3.5 months! Where does the time go? No one can prepare you for how fast time flies when you have a baby. It’s so bittersweet – wanting time to slow down but wanting them to learn and grow and do new things at the same time. Today was  the day I’ve been dreading for a while, Andi’s first round of shots (we do them a little later here in Germany). It’s awful, just plain awful. I don’t care what anyone says. I don’t know if it gets much worse than that! Real tears running down your babies little face hurts your heart more than you can imagine. On a good note we are so happy that there is DEFINITELY no issue with andi’s weight anymore, incase all the photos didn’t indicate that already. For the first 5-6 weeks we had to monitor her weight gain. Just so happy to have a healthy baby! I thank God every day for a healthy and happy baby.

3 Month Stats:

Weight: 13.5 LBS!!!!!!!

Height: 23.5 Inches

Eyes: Still blue!

12115760_10206336428587633_3729044533441249145_n

Loves: When mommy rocks her to sleep, when daddy gets her ready for bed, her play-mat, Taylor Swift & Hozier, warm baths and being outside.

Hates: When dad’s team scores a goal at the hockey game (lol), tummy-time, when mom and dad eat lunch/dinner without her…. she doesn’t hate much of anything.

Schedule: Andi goes to bed around 10-1030, sleeps until about 4-430 and wakes up for a snack for about 20 minutes then goes back to sleep until 730-8! Just waiting to break that 4 AM habit! 😉 I can’t complain… I feel like 6 hours of straight sleep is pretty damn awesome.

Skills: Grasping her toys, recognizes mom & dad, kicking, sticking EVERYTHING in her mouth, and chatting like crazy!

Clothes: Pretty much anything 3 months and smaller doesn’t fit anymore. We just cleaned out her closets a couple of days ago. Then daddy went on an online shopping spree.

We are so lucky that another couple on the team has a baby 11 days younger than Andi. It is so fun watching them grow up together. They will also be with us next year here in Bremerhaven – when the real fun will start! 🙂

Andi & Indy

We are all doing well and just having fun watching Andi grow and learn new things every day. Being a mom is exhausting but so rewarding. Watching Jerry love Andi so much is pretty awesome too. We got lucky and this baby has been quite a blessing! She is so good and makes it so much easier on me. She has her days/nights but for the most part is an easy baby. (does that mean the next one will be really bad?! haha). Jerry tells me he misses my belly “so much” but he’s going to have to wait at least another year! 😉

12088566_10206292667253627_3174788768998083277_n

We make frequent face time calls home to both sets of Andi’s grandparents, my close girlfriends and anyone that wants to see her. She loves listening in and staring into the phone! We know that everyone misses her but thank God for FaceTime! Next month we are going on our first family trip – to Amsterdam! So excited and it falls on Andi’s 4 month “birthday”… Please slow down, time!

So happy I found a few minutes to catch everyone up, this is the easiest way for everyone to read about how Andi is doing while we are so far away! Big hugs and kisses!

30 Weeks Pregnant

I’m 30 weeks pregnant!

Wow. When did that happen? I had planned to write a lot more throughout my pregnancy but life happens. Our last couple of weeks in Bruneck were quite busy with playoffs and then before we knew it we were packing up our 4th hockey home and shipping out to the USA. Since being home we’ve been busy with seeing familiar faces and I Jumped right back in to work. The week we returned home I turned 25. Yep. That happened. I turned 25. My mom, little brother, grandparents, Jerry and I had dinner at my favorite pizza place – Buddy’s. My mom surprised me with specially made cupcakes (because I hate Birthday cake). I had a carrot cake one because my mom is the best and remembered me saying a few days earlier that I was craving carrot cake? I didn’t even remember. But, totally something my mom would remember. She’s pretty awesome. Jerry also had a birthday right before we moved home, the big guy is officially 29!

So much has changed in these last ten weeks since I last wrote about my pregnancy.

22 weeks!

10407316_10204866238633803_8524966915198853144_n

22 weeks was about the first week I even looked slightly pregnant. Unless people knew themselves, no one had any idea I was carrying a baby around in there. I could still get away with pretending that was not a human baby but a “food baby”. At 22 weeks I was still hitting the weights and cardio with Jerry. It has really helped with my pregnancy (or so I believe). My dreams were getting more and more crazy/vivid at this point. I was waking up almost every night around 3 or 4 in the morning to eat, because I was starving. Baby Kuhn and I would sit up in bed, enjoying a bowl of whatever cereal I craved that week, watching soon to be daddy and big sister snore away. There was something about that hour in the middle of the night that I secretly loved. I felt like the whole world was asleep, everything was so quiet. It was just me, the baby and this bowl of cereal. I’d look over at Jerry and Miika snuggled away in dream land and think of how lucky we all are and how awesome life is about to get. My cereal addiction/late night waking up to eat ended at about 24/25 weeks.

Around 24 weeks I really started feeling baby kuhn kick me. I had a little before but this little baby really started making a move around then! I could never get Jerry to catch the moves and kicks at first. The first time he did was so funny. Like, we actually laughed really hard. Jerry had his hand on my stomach and the baby kicked… and Jerry goes, “WOAH!!!!” and just started giggling. Baby was moving A LOT at Jerry’s hockey games, I’m assuming from all of the noise. Also, when I’m working out. At this point I was still feeling pretty amazing, not many complaints. One of the only things I can remember from this time frame was cooking Jerry’s lunch made me so sick. The smell of cooking chicken/pork was killer! So strange. Miika and I were enjoying our last weeks with our mountain views on our morning/afternoon/night walks.

16 vs. 24 weeks!

14227_10204959158676746_8086601112714793435_n

Around 26 weeks, right before we left Bruneck I started to show more. There was no question that I was pregnant now! I started getting more smiles from strangers at the gym when they would look down and see my belly. Baby Kuhn was showered with a lot of gifts from our friends in Italy before leaving. Our last Sunday in Brunico we spent up on the ski mountain with friends. The sun was shining so bright and it was so warm. The perfect last day on the mountain!

14900_10205023994417599_9210492162642510336_n

Flying home at 26 weeks was hard. I thought with how easy going my pregnancy has been it would be much easier. I wasn’t worried a bit. WRONG. It did not help that it was the worst travel day we’ve ever had. Delays, almost missed planes, stress. I had to get up almost every 30-40 minutes and walk the entire plane once we were on our long haul, 10 hour flight. My legs and feet kept falling asleep after sitting too long. The flight attendants were so helpful and ended up just giving me giant bottles of water for my flight. I was doing yoga in the kitchen areas and probably peed 155 times. Poor Jerry couldn’t stay asleep because I had to constantly get up. By the time we landed in America, I was just happy we made it home safe after all the flight/weather complications in Germany. But, the thing I will never ever look forward to in the future: flying pregnant.

28 weeks!

1

Finally home. Obviously our family and friends were patiently waiting for me to get home so they could see and/or rub (UGH!!) my belly. I hate when people touch me. I’m not an affectionate person so this has been difficult. I have pretty much let everyone touch once and then I say, “okay that’s enough”. My family probably expected this from me.  Adjusting to home this spring has been harder than past years. I’m not sure why. All of the food I was craving and so excited to eat, was much less appetizing than I thought. It’s funny how much our taste buds change while overseas. I’ve been to my doctor twice now since being home. She wanted to see me for a full exam and to get all my paperwork from Italy. Then my second appointment I had to get the Rhogam shot because I have 0- blood. In two weeks I start my every two-week appointments and stress tests two days a week. I think the means we are “in the final stretch”! I’ve had a couple of people make comments, “oh aren’t you so ready to get that baby out of there”? Which I find annoying. I’ve loved being pregnant (I know I still have 9-10 weeks left and don’t know if I’ll be saying that when I’m closer) but I am in no way rushing the rest of my pregnancy or “want this baby out”. You are only pregnant the first time ONCE. So, I’m really trying to love every second. It actually makes me sad that in 10 weeks I won’t be pregnant anymore. It’s crazy when you stop to think that this will be the last time I’m ever “alone” in my life.

People are SO nice to pregnant people. That has been so funny too me. I’ll catch random strangers when I’m shopping, just smiling and looking at my stomach. No one at work let’s me pick up or move ANYTHING. Lol! You pretty much get a free pass from anything that requires “work”. I’m embracing my weekends with Jerry and Miika (possibly only 10 more left, on our own)! Saturday’s Jerry and I like to go out to dinner and maybe see some friends after. Sundays are for Tim Horton’s and grocery shopping, enjoying the sun when it decides to come out.

I have to say that I’m really disappointed in how a lot of people have acted towards me wanting to keep the baby’s gender a secret. I don’t know when it became a necessity for everyone to know what a couple is having or why it’s so hard for people to understand that I think it’s just special for Jerry and I to know. I thought it would be so fun for everyone to find out when baby Kuhn decides to make his/her debut to the world but I guess I was wrong.

I’m officially 30 weeks today and feeling pretty good! Some things I’m experiencing:

My weight gain is healthy (but really really difficult to watch go up every week). The baby is healthy (hoping he/she isn’t as big as me – 9 lbs! yikes!). Just a few days ago my ankles started to swell a little bit. My legs and feet fall asleep really quickly if I sit too long. Sleep… what is sleep? Lol! Kidding. I do sleep but I’m about every hour peeing. Probably because I drink at least a gallon of water every single day. I have to switch sides while I’m sleeping each time I wake up. Most of my weight is on my hips and I can only sleep on my sides so, after a while my side that I’ve been sleeping on starts to ache! If Jerry catches me on my back he rolls me over. Haha! I can’t remember S***. Jerry says I have mashed potato brains. I thought that was all a fluke but pregnancy brain is for real. The emotional part of pregnancy hit me this trimester. Nonetheless, I’m still feeling good and h-a-p-p-y! Miika and I walk 40 minutes every morning and at night. We aren’t quite as fast as pre-pregnancy but hey, as long as we are getting those miles in! I’m still doing a little bit of weights but not quite as much as a few weeks ago. I bought my first pair of pregnancy jeans and a couple of tops to get me through these last ten weeks. Why are maternity clothes so expensive? I guess the good part is I can fold them and store them away for the next pregnancy.

Some of my favorite things: ice cubes, slurpees, fruit and long warm showers.

The baby shower is only 5 weeks away! So excited to have my family and friends there and shower baby Kuhn! In a couple of weeks we will do my maternity photos. Hoping it warms up by then. Until then, enjoying these last 10 or so weeks as being my own person.

Jerry and I are so excited!!!! XO

I hope to update at least one more time before baby comes. I love having all of this too look back on.

Until next time,

Milly Goes to Europe

We were super happy when Megan (AKA: Milly) sent us a text with her flight confirmation. She had been talking about coming for awhile but it wasn’t real until I saw it for myself.

Megan, for those of you who don’t know her, is one of my best friends. We’ve actually known each other since the super star basketball days but we became really close through college and especially after. My husband sort of loves her too. Whats not too love?

10898198_10153072044347193_4390614087073062866_n

We drove to Munich to pick megan up. I was supposed to go alone but Jerry said he was “worried” about me driving alone. AKA: He wanted to sleep in a comfortable hotel bed. So, we left late at night and slept in a hotel. We planned on staying in Munich for the day but it was um, -18 and snowing and Miikas paws were freezing to the cement. No joke! Ugh, one day I will experience all of Munich. Megan came with LOTS of christmas gifts…….

1484310_10204374019088622_4713192411515756600_n

Megans first full day in Europe was a “game day” for Jerry. In the morning I showed her around Bruneck, lots of walking with Miika! We met with some of my friends before the game and Megan got to enjoy her first Hugo! Then we headed to the hockey game. I was happy she got to see Jerry play! That was the only home game he had while she was here. For the away games, we cheered from home!

10396271_10204481875784972_5733424259007008151_n

The next day (new years eve) we headed to one of favorite little cities, Brixen (Bressanone). We went shopping for new years eve dresses and had a really nice lunch. The Christmas market was still up so I was glad we both got to enjoy that before they took it down!

10881521_10204398652104432_1244566750745082638_n

We had an amazing New Years Eve dinner at a beautiful hotel up in the mountain – Hotel Petrus! It was an all out celebration. So happy Megan got to experience true european dinner. AKA: 6 courses, lots of presecco and a midnight cheers! After midnight the entire dinner party lit chinese lanterns with all of our new years wishes on them and let them go. It was so fun and so beautiful!

I couldn’t let Megan leave Europe without visiting one of my absolute favorite cities: Innsbruck!

It’s true, I made her eat Subway while we were there. However, I don’t really care much for austrian food anyways lol! I was going to take her to Vapianos but we let ourselves get “hangry” (so hungry that your angry). So, Subway was closer. Megan is a great friend. She didn’t even judge me for eating 3 subway cookies.

I took her shopping and too one of my favorite little pubs that’s tucked away on the shopping street in Innsbruck. An old Irish Pub that I visited with two of my girlfriends last year. The same bartender was behind the bar but somehow didn’t remember me and those 2 crazy blondes from last year ;). We met some really funny Aussie’s who said: “Every American we meet is so nice!”… I wish I could have tapped that and let some people listen to that.

Megan loved Innsbruck!

10409106_10204459883275173_3110495857430093666_n

I knew of an outdoor winter classic going on in the Austrian league (the league Jerry played in the last two years) and wanted Megan to experience a Winter Classic in Europe! So, we jumped in the car with two friends and headed to Klagenfurt, Austria for the game. It was F’ing cold but so worth it! I think she enjoyed it once we got the feeling back in our toes. It was great watching a game and not really caring who wins. Just wish I could have enjoyed some hot wine to keep me warm!

10898337_10204459848674308_6607970303061462421_n

Can you believe we’ve lived in Brunico since August and never went to the top of our ski hill (Kronplatz)? With megan here it was finally time to experience it. Especially with the beautiful snow! We took our friend Claudia and Jerry with us. They all enjoyed a nice drink and I had a nice hot tea! The joys of being the pregnant person 🙂 The views were amazing and I was so happy we finally made it up there to see the views. We all had a lot of fun!

It’s safe to say Milly made some good friends while in Bruneck!

Jerry finally got a free day from hockey so we got to drag him on a day trip with the girls! We headed to Bolzano to do some shopping, eat and watch our friends hockey game. Megan got to get her first taste of Zara! That’s right, us Michigan girls have no clue what Zara is until someone tells us about it…… not cool! She loved it. The Christmas Market there was also still open! We had lots of fun shopping and then I took them to my favorite restaurant in Bolzano for a nice lunch before we headed to the hockey game.

We spent the last day in Bruneck saying goodbye to some of Megans new friends and visiting some places she wanted to see before we packed her up! Squeezing in a few more Hugos before she heads back to USA was a must!

10386366_10153067297372193_5380421656879412845_n

Milly’s European trip would end with an overnight stay in Venice. My FAVORITE city in Europe! I haven’t seen them all but this one will always be my favorite. You’ve heard me say this before but it’s just so special. Anyways, it was Megans first ever train ride!  Exciting! Minus the getting up at 5 AM part, haha! We checked in to our hotel and were immediately upgraded to a suite right on the canal! OH MY GOD. Amazing! Ugh, I could just die! We headed out and stopped at one of my favorite little lunch places, where I also took my nane last December. Nothing special just a good spot for lunch and the name is slipping my mind right now. Then we headed out after fueling up and grabbing a cappuccino to go. TIme to get lost! The city was dead … preparing for Carneval as it starts in about two weeks!

I think were ready for carneval!

10930947_10204502971912362_4273847537575992466_n

I told Megan to drop her maps because were getting lost in Venice baby! The best way to see Venice is to “get lost” and see everything. Even the side streets, the residential area, just everything.

1932431_10204502976912487_8756364678596271072_n

We found our way to a gondola, as that was obviously at the top of Megs list of things to do! We ended up hitting the “jackpot” …no we didn’t get a gondola for less than $60 but our gondolier was amazing! His name was Andreas and he made the $60 so worth it. Let me tell you first, that a gondola ride for $60 does not come often and that was only for a 15-20 minute ride! He told us about all the building in Venice and gave us so much history, things even I didn’t know.

10917447_10204502992792884_6299492167912061777_n

I was so excited to get on the gondola and show Megan exactly where Jerry proposed! It was so fun and we had lots of laughs with Andreas. We finally decided to take a break and sit down for a little before we found a place for dinner. I assured Megan we’d be walking into a random place and hoping for the best. That’s what I always do in Venice! And guess what? I’ve NEVER had a bad meal! I won’t lie, we were nervous at first….. and it’s hard because there are so many things I cannot eat right now because I’m pregnant. It can be frustrating but we found stuff and made it work… and our dinner was amazing! When we left you couldn’t get a seat in the place, so obviously we did something right!

A few extras from our trip:

10923779_10204502998593029_3816216313251865167_n

It was a beautiful trip! We ended the night at our hotel with a drink and a nice hot shower (in a BIG shower) something I haven’t experienced in 5 months! I stayed in there for a half hour. Megan had to be up at 430 AM to catch her plane, my train didn’t leave until 8 am but I was up since Megan left. Of course! I had quite a long travel day back to Bruneck but it was so worth it to spend time with one of my best friends in my favorite city ever!

Jerry and I were so happy to have a slice of home here in Bruneck and she couldn’t have come at a better time. It was good to have a good friend here to remind us of how loved we are and remind us that we have so many people at home who love and miss us. I’m so glad that Megan took the leap and came to Europe. Traveling at our age is so important, there is no better time. It’s always so nice to open our doors to visitors so they can see our life over here and what it’s like for us. Instead of being a tourists, they are locals like us, which my grandma said was one of her favorite parts of visiting us last year.

Thanks Meg for putting up with my pregnancy hormones & crazy goalie wife superstitions. I wish we could have enjoyed more vino but I know you and Jerry did! We hope this was an experience you will never forget and that you get to come again , another hockey season! It was so good to laugh until our stomachs hurt (watching home videos from college) and have someone to talk to on my walks with Miika so I don’t look crazy talking to myself. You made new friends, tried new food, shopped in new stores and visited cities people can only dream of! We can’t repay you for all the things you do for us and what a great friend you are but I hope this experience helps a little. Everyone you met here in Bruneck LOVES you and has had nothing but good things to say about you, of course. We love you and see you in THREE months – Redwing play off hockey, birthday celebrations with all of our friends, DETROIT food, and a summer of excitement! (minus over consumption of alcohol at Luke Bryan)!

#millygoestoeurope

As for me, school is back in session and I’m back to full weeks of English Tutoring! I’m going to be so sad to say goodbye too all of the kids and families, I’ve gotten so close with.  I’m in my 16th week of pregnancy. Still no bump, still no sickness, and I have gained 3.5 lbs! I guess this is where all my good karma is kicking in? I’ll take it! Tomorrow I go to the doctor but just to be weighed, blood pressure and all that. I’m not supposed to have an ultra sound but Mr. Kuhn plans on asking if I can because he’s dying to know what we are having. I’m planning on him finding out and not telling me. As for hockey, We are a few games shy of playoffs starting. Playoffs?! Crazy! Hoping for the best for Jerry and the team. Good luck and good vibes our way! Before we know it, it will be time to head home to our amazing families and friends. We are looking forward to this summer more than all the last summers by a long shot! (…. I’m dying for American food and too get back to work).

Until next time – Peace + Love,

Amanda xx

The Things I Couldn’t Say

Image

It’s been so long I nearly forgot how to navigate this thing.

Hey there! It’s been a while. Would you believe I have 20 saved drafts on here that I haven’t published because I was, at the time, to nervous-sad-didn’t want to share my feelings-lost my desire to share my world with everyone-was scared I’d have to look back on it?

I know not many people read this blog anyways, but I couldn’t even find it in me to write for myself and read it later.

BUT here I’am and boy do I have a lot to catch up on – I’m pretty sure my last post was from our first day in Krefeld? Yeah, so much has happened since then. I even have saved drafts from our time in Krefeld but I’d get to the end and say, “nah, I don’t really want to post that anymore”. I kind of wanted to take every second in and every feeling and hold it in a bubble because I hadn’t felt that good in so long.

We are home and back in our summer routine.

I hope to {soon} backtrack and retrace my steps the past couple of months. I know you see the photos and updates here and there on FB or Instagram (I quit Twitter for Lent and never went back) but there are SO many other things to catch up on!

I’m out from between the pipes for the summer, pretty busy but…you’ll be hearing from me soon.

Over and Out!

Bowl 4 Animal Rescue!

I’ve taken on one last fundraiser for the summer! {Bowl 4 Animal Rescue Fundraiser}

Since HPA {hockey players assemble} is challenging people to get up and take on a challenge in their community – I quickly said, challenge accepted!

What’s the challenge I’m talking about? Click here.

This fundraiser is a little different then the last two – instead of walking, were bowling!

The event includes food, auctions, bowling, raffles, and lots of fun!

When singing up for fundraising you are given the option of two different charities your fundraising money will go towards.

You can chose between Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter or Michigan Animal Adoption network.

This time I decided to add on a little “help” and make this a team effort. I really wanted to go above and beyond my last two goals and with the help of my friend Chelsea (I’m happy to say) we are doing just that! With the help of our generous family and friends this fundraiser is already turning out great for us!

Receiving this email the other day made me so happy! It’s great to get recognized for doing things you love & enjoy.

Are you up for a challenge?

It is not to late to sign up as a bowler, or to fund raise!

Click here if you are interested in signing up to bowl, or fund raise.

($30 for bowling includes meal ticket, 3 games of bowling and shoes)

If you are not interested in bowling, or fundraising – consider donating to help our local animals in need! Then you you can pat your self on the back for a good deed – done! Donations add up quickly and are greatly appreciated. Not just by me, but by the people who start these events and the animals you are saving.

Click here if you are interested in donating! I’m only $140 away from my {personal} goal!

A big thank you to everyone that has already donated, who will donate and those who can’t donate by give me credit for doing this! You all rock!

While you are all being awesome and donating – I have to help my fiance pack up to head back to Europe for another hockey season. Yupp. The time has come….
