Mini Amsterdam – Groningen

Hi there!

Yes, I’m alive. (#momlife)… I’ve been neglecting this space and I miss it. I’ve promised myself to get on here and write at least once a month. I always have people mentioning they love that I have all of this too look back on and in the back of my head I’m sad that I haven’t got to writing much this “year” or  rather,”season” as we hockey families refer to years. I have a draft on here for London, life update, breastfeeding, the list goes on… I’m the worst!

Andi and I (and Jerry) are so lucky to have found friends here in Bremerhaven that we consider family. Andi’s babysitter and her family have been wonderful to us all year. I just wish we would have met them sooner (last season) because they have truly been a blessing to us. Liia is Andi’s babyistter, I don’t even really like referring to her as that because she’s so much more than that!… they have the cutest little relationship.

Andi and Liia on Christmas:

We had planned to head down to Augsburg (about 30 minutes from Munich) to watch Jerry’s team play Liia’s dad’s  (he is the assistant coach in Augsburg) team back in January. It’s not very close and would have been a lot for just a couple of days. So, we settled on going to Groningen (Netherlands). I’ve been dying to head that way so we made a girls trip out of it while the boys were out of town. Groningen is about 2 hours from here (1 hour before Amsterdam).

We stayed at the cutest little hotel right in the city (The Student Hotel). It is actually half hotel/half short-term lodging for students. SO many students in Groningen from all over the world! It was great to hear people speaking English for a change.  We didn’t need anything special as we were just spending the night. The decor throughout the entire hotel was beyond amazing! The rooms are decorated as if you are in a dorm room. A really cute dorm room! There is a restaurant downstairs that has an amazing breakfast and at night you can get drinks at the bar. At night all of the college kids were downstairs hanging out in the common areas, drinking beers & doing homework. Overall, great place! AND to my surprise… very very quiet.

16194984_10209959155833550_5596188503209037256_n16143006_10209959155313537_443136045387212262_n

The hotel is in the perfect location so after Andi was in bed, Liia stayed with her so Anke and I could grab some drinks. There are some cute bars very close to the hotel.

De Garage – So cute! Renovated space in an old garage (hence, the name).. and throughout the week they do a “pot luck” style lunch. They were closing but the nice lady let us come in and have a beer.

16265832_10209959155153533_863949121393044211_n

De Toeter – An amazing whiskey bar! Over 300 whiskeys to try and over 100 different beers! Definitely a spot to hit in Groningen if you are looking for a fun time.

We had the whole next day to explore! It was still pretty cold out but we were more than happy that the SUN was shining!!!

16142518_10209959162313712_975554755761324953_n

I was dying to check out this “kids” store that’s home base is in Groningen (A Little Lovely Company)… it is every bit of lovely! I’ve followed them on Instagram for a long time. So I was happy I finally got to check it out for myself! They have two stores in Groningen. If you have kids, the flagship store is a must stop. They have a play area for kids and a mini cafe for coffee and relaxing! I wanted to live in this store….or buy everything.

16298542_10209959161073681_5550942494230210575_n16266086_10209959161193684_1303010027793982369_n16195149_10209959165233785_3079645497824311231_n

AMAZING! Right!? Check out the link to the store I posted above. You won’t be disappointed.

Groningen is a lot like Amsterdam. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with Amsterdam….so that is quite a compliment. Canals, coffee shops (and by coffee, I mean joints), amazing stores, great restaurants, delicious cafes, bikes & more bikes… everything good. The Dutch people do everything right! Not to mention they are all very, very nice people. I just LOVE everything about the Netherlands. I have nothing negative to say about that country. Whenever I’m in the Netherlands, I hope to never leave. I fall in love a little more each time.

16115032_10209959163713747_7567777761700867573_n16143154_10209959163473741_1117484648127685821_n16195865_10209959158433615_2264761041297562484_n

I’m so happy we did a mini trip with Liia and Anke! It made for good memories that we will never forget.

I traveled a lot before Andi came along and it was great, really great. But… there is something so so so special about doing all of this with her. One day I hope she looks back at all of these memories and it makes her smile. I hope it pushes her to travel and maybe even visit all the places she was when she was little and living in Europe. We are lucky, that’s for sure. ❤

Until next time, Netherlands!

Back In Germany!

We are so happy to be back in Germany. It’s always nice to be home in the summer to see our family and friends (especially now that we have Andi) but to be honest, it’s a lot of work. I always feel like were being pulled in 500 directions trying to see everyone and fit everything in before it’s time to pack up and head out again. Life at home can be a bit stressful but gosh, do I love Sunday dinners at my parents house! That makes it all worth it. I’m drooling just thinking about it!

One of my favorite pics from summer: My Crew ❤

13423932_10208042499198332_4445530390743679948_n

I think we were mostly happy to be in Germany after that terrible flight with a one year old. I rather poke my eyeballs out than go through that ever again … but I better get used to it. Andi did great for the first 2-3 hours… but then she was basically up for the next 10 hours. :insert cry face here:… tears were shed, and not from just Andi.

13680635_10208325140664192_3414158606460179840_n.jpg

We obviously couldn’t wait to be reunited with our Lampl girls! We ran over to their apartment as soon as we got back.

13873240_10208412748454332_3880190732878562458_n.jpg

It was so nice to come back to our same apartment. Everything just the way we left it, it makes for a MUCH easier transition. The easiest we’ve ever had for sure. There was no stress of finding a grocery store, buying all the essentials (soaps, laundry detergent, etc.) it was all here!

We brought back a lot of Andi’s books from our baby shower – they are so special because inside is a special message from people that came to the shower. So that makes us smile when we open them each time!

13879360_10208388141399171_6232769605596571942_n.jpg

The team management put on a special lunch for all the guys and families last week. It was at one of our favorite places here in Bremerhaven, so that was a plus! It was good to meet the new faces and see some old familiar faces too.

13912562_10208412753454457_4343121019950444715_n.jpg

I had to snap a family pic since it’s probably the first time I put on real pants and did my hair since we got here! (haha)

13891862_10208404672292433_2682334566340814956_n

On Monday Andi started “krippe” (which is essentially like day care in America). She will only be going a couple of days a week right now from 9-1130 (for now)… She really has loved it so far but it’s throwing off her schedule quite a bit. Usually by 9 Andi is down for her first nap and right now were getting to school then. So, to say shes exhausted by 11:30 is an understatement. Yesterday was the first day they had me actually leave her. I left at 10 and she was there all alone like a big girl! I knew she’d do just fine because she LOVES other kids and plays really well. And is one of 8 kids in her “classroom” and is the youngest by one month. There are three teachers in every classroom which is amazing. I think this is going to be wonderful for Andi! I haven’t had a second to cry because I haven’t really “dropped” her off and left… I’m sure that day is coming.

Andi is starting to take more steps on her own. Finally.. not that I was ever in a rush but it’s been frustrating for her. So we are excited about that and have been practicing a lot! Her teacher told me she was “walking all over” but I’ll assume we were lost in translation. Haha! When Andi isn’t at school or taking a nap.. she loves being outside and playing at the park. No surprise, the kid has loved fresh air since day one. Remember… she used to only nap outside? So glad that has changed.

We needed a break from cooking at home so we headed downtown the other day. We went a little early to take a stroll by the water. It was a windy afternoon! The weather here has been shit.. for lack of a better word. Last year around this time it was still summer. I was so excited to take Andi to the beach when we got back but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. Boo! Oh well.. They say were getting some warm weather next week. I’ll take anything warmer then 55-60 like we’ve had!

13880335_10208426553839458_1440219566874626321_n

The boys preseason is in full swing. Which means two-a-days .. which means I feel like single mom, professional dog walker. Next weekend the boys head to denmark for some preseason games and the following weekend they head to Belfast! (jealous? yes! me too.) Wish me luck on those weekends alone. I’ll need A LOT of coffee.

Until next time….

Andi turns ONE!

So, this post is a bit late. Almost a month to be exact but we had a busy month of July! The most important event being, Baby Andi turned ONE!

We celebrated for almost an entire week. Celebrating her birthday the weekend before her actual birthday with family and friends at our summer house. It was a blast, except it was almost 100 degrees!

13494799_10208101412471127_2292253973784776932_n

For Andi’s actual birthday weekend we ended up in Frankenmuth, Michigan with my parents. The cutest little German town right in Michigan! We love it there and I’m happy to start a tradition of taking Andi there for her birthday weekend as my parents took me and my brothers at least once a year when we were little! It was so nice to share it with my parents and little brother. They spent a lot of time with Andi this summer and it was so great to see them each create a special bond with Andi. Let me tell you, she brings out a side of my dad I’ve never seen before! So sweet.

Andi and her boys! (minus DJ)

We finished off Andi’s birthday week at Devil’s lake with one more celebration and one more cake!

The real question is.. can I have a birthday week like this chick? We love you so much Andi and I’d celebrate you every day.. and I do. Some days I wish you could stay little but watching you grow is just as special.

Thank you to our photographer and friend, Kristen Medina (Candy Pixels Photography) for Andi’s amazing birthday photo shoot. You are amazing!

It’s hard to believe a year has passed since we’ve brought you into this world. Love you Baby Andi. (Yes, we are going to call you that even when you’re 20, I think). ❤

We just arrived back in Germany and are getting settled in but I had a few down minutes and wanted to post this. Stay tuned for another exciting year of our life overseas!

Baby Andi – 9 and 10 months!

I’m going to do my best to pick up where I left off! I can’t believe we have a nearly 11 month old baby but not to rush.. we have catching up to do first!

Unfortunately Jerrys season ended a little earlier than expected. Which is never fun. Nonetheless, we are so proud of him and all of his hard work this season!

Some things we did before we left Germany!

We celebrated Jerry’s 30th Birthday with the help of my wonderful friend, Ellie. There’s actually a really funny story about Jerry’s birthday. I wish I still had photo proof. True Life, I’m that crazy hockey wife. I wanted to decorate Jerry’s stall since 30 is kind of a big deal. BUT he had a game on his birthday. I lied and said I was going to the grocery store but really went to the rink. I decorated Jerry’s stall in all this crazy 30th Birthday decorations only to.. tear it all down. I got extremely sweaty and panicked and I freaked. I got the worst feeling and my superstitions took over so, I tore it all down and pretended like it never happened. I was so worried that if they lost it would have been my fault for touching Jerry’s stall. This.. is my life in a nutshell. After a few days I finally confessed to Jerry. He laughed but then told me how happy he was that I tore it down. Happy Birthday!

We celebrated easter with our hockey family!

Andi enjoyed her last swim class before we return in August! In August they will be putting floaties on her arms! 12800347_10207347785630927_7961384816902192988_n

We enjoyed one more day trip to our favorite little town – Bremen. We needed one more trip to Vapiano’s with our Lampl crew. The girls enjoyed their carbs, per usual!

12039748_10207441757500165_381285115674112805_n

We had an entire week full of warmth and sunshine before we left. It was amazing… only to return to Detroit and have cold and snow.

12923287_10207479454562568_7098648014238199393_n

Andi started crawling right before we left to come home. Of course the first real crawl happened while Jerry was gone on a road trip!

She turned 9 months a couple days before we flew home.

NINE MONTHS:

12923228_10207467502863783_1631083929085192483_n

She celebrated with one of her favorites that her dad makes, sweet potatoes and beets! We let her make a mess.

Andi and Papa were excited to use the “euro line” at customs with their cool German passports. Don’t worry, I get to go with them and skip the long US line in Germany with my cool Germans!

12932964_10207494175570584_3593461729778575050_n

I would say the flight went as good as it could. It could have been worse for sure. I don’t think it’s ever going to be as enjoyable as flying alone… ha! We just had to do a lot to keep her occupied.. and asleep. Everyone is making noise and Andi is that baby that needs her own space. So, not a lot of sleep happened but we made it!

Andi has got to “meet” a lot of people since being home. Considering she was 4 weeks when we left it’s like meeting everyone over again. We stayed at my parents like we always do until we got settled into our summer place. The time change was a little rough at first but we adjusted after 5 or so days. It went better than I expected. When we first got home it was pretty tough, Andi didn’t want to go to anyone, especially if I was anywhere in the room. She is slowly but surely getting better with other adults holding her.

We have a lot of little parks around our house and Andi is loving the swing and sunshine!

d13051703_10207591778650600_7540259698433856412_n

We ended up taking Andi to the doctor here to get her shot record updated. The State of Michigan kept sending letters telling me to vaccinate my child, haha. She is but clearly all her shots have been done in Germany!

TEN MONTHS:

WEIGHT: 22 LBS

HEIGHT: 28 INCHES

13124661_10207699850952340_2442762311945345569_n

Since when we left for Germany baby Andi was a tad “under weight” the doctor was so happy to see that she clearly doesn’t miss a meal and is very healthy!

Things andi is doing: copying things other people do (facial expressions, “yelling”, talking), standing (going from table to couch, not standing alone), got her first two teeth FINALLY!, giggling lots, points to Miika and says “dog”… (it’s crazy cute). Puts phone up to her ear and acts like she’s talking.

Dislikes: When I leave the room (this is not cute, its awful), car rides, getting her diaper changed.

We enjoyed my first Mother’s Day! So sweet. I love being this monkeys mama.13178843_10207723328699269_504799372026338495_n

Last week we “surprised” our friends in Idaho for a visit! We packed up and headed there on short notice and I’m so glad we did. It was the perfect most refreshing trip. You all know how much I love Idaho. My love grew even more while we were there. I truly hope that we get to live there after hockey. It just feels like the perfect place to put down our roots. Jerry pretend he doesn’t love it like I do, but he does. He was even checking out houses online the night before we left! WIN! 😉

Jerry’s bestie, Harbor only had a little idea that we were coming and was waiting on her balcony when we pulled up. She was SO surprised and so excited!

13164497_10207781816801435_8917904576588183811_n

It is so crazy to see Andi and Indy growing up together. I don’t know what we’ll do when the day comes we won’t always be together (they are also in Germany with us for the hockey season). We took Andi and Indy out to a field for some pretty photos. They are totally the cutest best friends!

13266132_10207793383970607_6052622328503830747_n

Now we are just continuing to enjoy our summer and watching Andi grow. We have a lot coming up for her – baptism & first birthday party! I’m missing Europe lots and can’t wait to be back and hopefully enjoy some sunshine before Jerry’s training starts. I love being home with my family and catching up with old friends but Europe is home for us after all these years. ❤

I have my first “friend” wedding Saturday. We are looking forward to a mommy & daddy night out. Except… should be interesting for my poor mom. Andi still “doesn’t take a bottle” really. So, I’m going to owe my mom big time because I have a feeling it might me a mighty long night…

Until next time,

The Kuhns

Baby Andi – 8 months

I know, I say it every month… but “where does the time go”? Really, where does it go. My tiny human is 8 months (and not to rush, but that means 4 months until her FIRST birthday!) Make TIME SLOW DOWN!

Since here we don’t do another doctors appointment until 1 year, I have no idea if Andi has grown in length but I’m positive she is 20+ lbs.

12742378_10207063378440925_8222556583301956623_n

Fun things: Andi is “talking” … Yes, “da da” was her first word. She is getting on her knees and preparing to crawl (until she falls flat on her belly and starts screaming for us, haha!) Likes to use her hands to “wave”. She “growls” for fun and is starting to play “peek a boo”.  She’s doing great at swimming, kicking her feet and “jumping” to mommy into the pool!

Other things: Andi is in a definite clingy stage. Cries if I leave the room. Loves her daddy but if she sees me she lunges (lol). Everyone loves that Andi always has a smile on her face. Still not a long napper and enjoys her cat naps. 2 or 3 throughout the day which is fine because she sleeps through the night with the occasional waking up to nurse (which is fine because I HATE pumping!). Andi is still breastfed exclusively, not eating a lot of purees and has now moved on to a more “baby led weaning” type of eating. She eats whatever I prepare for her.. loves sweet potatoes, papaya and beets… and bread (typical german girl).

February flew by.

I had the cutest Valentine. Jerry and I have never celebrated Valentines Day but now we kind of have a reason to make it a day full of extra love! Jerry was on the road but we sent him lots of pictures.

12729040_10207035565385616_255532404550645611_n

We had a visitor this month! Andi’s great-grandma came to see us. We had a great time and made a lot of memories. We even took her to our new favorite city, Amsterdam! She loved it.

12742127_10207077141144984_7626161243679133751_n

Jerry always gives Andi “spider man” kisses and… I think she’s caught on. I love being this little monkeys mama!

10337737_10207059870433227_7951510322162162995_n.jpg

Andi loves our lunch/dinner dates with daddy. She sits at the table our entire meal and goes through lots of snacks, banging spoons, and chats our ears off.

12742168_10207071153675301_2142622215499081432_n

She was so great on our trip to Amsterdam. I think she will be quite the travel bug when she is older. Enjoys being out and about in her stroller! She is a little “nosy” and doesn’t like to miss a beat. So lucky to have this cute travel pal on my side!

12745738_10207056238582433_8571682701364685388_n.jpg

This picture is so important to me. I know breastfeeding can be a touchy subject (I don’t know why)… it should be positive talk. 8 months of BF through dinners, hockey games, long nights. I never thought we’d make it past one month but here we are. We deserve a pat on the back, Andi. I love this bond with you and I’m forever thankful I’ve been able to give this to you. ❤

12784531_10207154622641973_212159063_n

We finished off February and started the Month of March with Jerry’s last regular season game before playoffs start. Andi no longer sleeps a wink at daddy’s games I used to get her to sleep at least a period in her stroller. It can be tiring (especially Friday night games) but we are here to support Mr. Kuhn and that’s what were going to do! He wants his girls there in the stands, how could we say no?! Andi (ask the fans) sits on my lap, smiling and “flirting” with everyone around us. She seriously loves watching! But I think her favorite part is seeing her papa after a big win…

12814574_10207150589301142_1406034463930524345_n.jpg

Here’s to a good March & playoff go! We are ready to support our #35 and the rest of the Pinguins! Send them good luck wishes and keep them in your prayers.

March will be a very busy month for us and I have a feeling by the next month update I’ll be telling you Andi is on the move! I’m going to be soaking up every minute with her because I feel like time is just flying every, single, day.

We are off on a mini “vacation” before playoffs start. Excited to see old friends and enjoy a nice massage. But mostly excited to relax with my little fam! Miika is going to be so excited when she realizes where were going…

Until next month… XO

Baby Andi – 6 Months … Going on 7!

How is this baby half a year old already?

Actually in 10 days we will have a 7 month old already! Wow! Last week Andi had her 6 month shots and check up! It was on a Monday (daddy’s day off) so he was able to join us. Andi didn’t like shots in both thighs but I’m sure she is secretly happy we are done with shots until we get back to Germany in July!

12507289_10206817068243324_3667039422824268097_n

6 Month Check up & Shots!

6 MONTH STATS:

Weight: 19 LBS!

Length: 25.5 Inches

Diaper Size: 4+ (lol)

Clothes: Andi is mostly in 9 month PJ’s and 6-9 “clothes” (onesies, t-shirts, leggings)

Fun things: sitting up alone, grabbing toys, eating fun snacks, loves watching her dog, passed first session of swim classes and is on to her 6 month-12 month classes next week!

Andi’s schedule: (currently, since we all know babies love to switch it up) Andi goes down around 7 or 8 PM, sleeps until around 4-430 wakes up to nurse and hang for a little then back to sleep until 8-9 AM. After this we pretty much do a “eat, play, sleep” routine… naps aren’t frequent and haven’t been almost ever, but I’m starting to see a better nap routine. Mix in a few walks with the pup in there too! Andi loves naping in her stroller.

12508889_10206872796796503_7131696645331562646_n.jpg

First day in her big girl seat of her stroller!

Andi still can’t find a bottle that she likes to drink boob milk out of so that has been stressful. Probably the most difficult thing so far. It would be much easier if she would take a bottle so I know for a fact she’d be fine alone with Jerry for a little bit. But, table foods and purees can do the trick too. I made it to my first gym class this week and it was amazing! Were going to try for me 2-3 days a week for now. Since, I also have Andi’s swim class once a week.  Andi is not a big “food” eater… she relies mostly on my breasts and food is just fun for her. She has her days when she will eat a whole cup of veggies or fruits and other days she will not touch it.

Some days babies just want to nap on their mamas! ❤

We were at Ikea a couple of weeks ago and Andi was being a bit fussy. I thought, let’s try out the cart… oh boy, she LOVED it.

12400506_10206788634772505_7811152725332207164_n-1

We also had a visitor last week! V came to see us and spend a few days with us. She comes to visit every season since we met back in Ljubljana. This year was a bit different but we still managed to have some fun with a baby in tow! In a couple of weeks my grandma is coming to stay with us for 10 days! That will be so nice. Wish my mom was joining her but she wasn’t able to swing it this season.

12400701_10206838541500142_6399231698942100783_n

This big girl started sitting up alone and loves playing on the floor with her toys. In the morning she “watches” 20 minutes of Nursery Rhymes from Baby Genius (keep comments to yourself about baby watching TV). She LOVES listening to people sing (especially her swim teacher) and it keeps her occupied for a whole 20 minutes! That means I can make my breakfast and coffee and then scarf it down. 🙂  She loves her Jolly Jumper (seriously, life save… get one ASAP for your baby!)

Every day I’m learning new things about Andi and myself. We have great days and we have bad days (like so bad I think she never wants a sibling 😉 haha). She has definitely changed my entire life, in the best way. Watching her and her papa love on each other is the best. I remember that first month and thinking “how am I going to do this” and now here I’am almost 7 months later… I may not have it all figured out but I think I got it down! Most days I don’t get out of my yoga pants or brush my hair and I only put on make up on game days but that is totally okay with me.

With my pregnancy brain turning into mom brain I decided to buy a journal, to write everything down. Just like I did when I was pregnant. I hate thinking “wait, when did Andi do ____ again”? and not being able to remember when she did it last. I’m excited to have a journal to look back on for all of these memories (aside from this blog) but there are things I just rather not share on here and keep to myself!

This cute bonnet is from “Briar Handmade”.  My GF here is obsessed with them and has slowly passed her obsession on to me! We love them.

Cheers to another month of growing and learning – full of giggles, smiles, tears and long nights.

We love you baby Andi.

Now, off to nap and the bath time before daddy’s hockey game! Go Pinguins!

Stay tuned for what this little nugget is up to next! ❤

Baby Andi Update – 4 & 5 months!

4 & 5 month update! Going on 6 months.

Oops, I fell a little behind! Just busy loving on this chunkey monkey of ours. It’s hard to find time to write but now that we have more of a routine going on in our life, it’s better!

This is all off the top of my head and a little scattered, I’m trying to remember everything over the past couple of months. My mom brain is off the charts. So don’t judge my terrible writing and keeping up. Enjoy 🙂

4 Months:11781737_10206433392291665_6611664213260003689_n

{Andi’s leggings and headband are from our friend Bonnie over at “the minted moose” – she makes the cutest organic baby clothes and accessories! check her out.}

We “celebrated” Andi’s 4 month birthday in Amsterdam. Our first family trip. Okay, it wasn’t for her 4 month birthday but we can keep that between us. I’ll ask her in a couple of years if she remembers everything she learned at the Anne Frank Haus! (PS: Amsterdam, is AMAZING).

12196161_10206461569676082_5702822377540165310_n

At 4.5 months Andi was weighing in at: 15.5 lbs!

The doctor could NOT believe it. When we got to Germany Andi was “under weight”, a very tiny thing and we were monitioring her weight gain. Now, she’s in the 99 percentile. We are confident she is at least 17 lbs now, my arms can feel it.

Height: Um, I’m a bad mom and not to sure.. we will find out again in January! 😉

Eyes: Blue. No idea where she gets them!

Skills: Andi rolled over at about 4.5 months, noticed when mom left the room, started solids, started swim class, noticed she had a doggy!

Random things about Andi: hates napping alone, loves napping “outside” on walks, gets bored quickly, enjoys dad’s hockey games but hates when they score goals (too loud), doesn’t want to take a bottle… only moms boob. (Yes mom, I know this is my fault). Loves the bath & swim class! The slightest noise can wake her up (this is brutal).. this chick loves hanging with her dad, even if it means chores! 😉

12295439_10206582877388699_8676639099575221910_n

12311094_10206632597711676_6202052562969588646_nFoods: Andi is still breastfed but… working on veggies (zucchini, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans, avocado (yeah a fruit or veggie? who knows the truth, haha) We are starting fruits this week! Baby Andi is not a fan of rice cereal. She loves letting her puppy sister lick her hands clean.

While my girlfriend was in town at the beginning of November I had my “first night out”. I didn’t last very long and all I could think about was Andi the entire time. Kailee tried really hard to make sure I enjoyed myself but really, I just wanted to be home. It was fun to pull out my old dance moves on the dance floor though!

We spent Thanksgiving with our hockey family. My girlfriend Ellie kills it in the kitchen and made us all feel right at home. Andi’s daddy dressed her up for Thanksgiving (his favorite thing to do with her!):

5 Months:

11143315_10206582877548703_4714579300015977507_n

How amazing our her rolls? Love!

Andi spent her “5 month birthday” going under water for the first time at swim class! We are really enjoying swim class here. It gives us something to do outside of the house and her daddy loves watching her swim. We know almost all of the nursery rhymes in German now! AJ really loves watching her swim teacher sing.

New things: Andi has a touch of “seperation anxiety” if we walk away from her or out of the room, banging things on the ground, sitting up more, sleeping long stretches at night, wants to eat/drink everything we have in our hands, trying very hard to laugh, interested in books, loves music on when we get ready for bed!

At 5 months or a little before, we moved Andi into her own bedroom. I knew it was time when we were really disturbing her sleep by even moving. Sometimes we co-slept, sometimes Andi was in her crib that was in our room. It was time for her to have her “own space” and quiet place to rest and be comfortable in. I cried a lot the first two nights but it has been better for both of us. A well rested mommy is much better than a tired one! It has gone really well and I’m happy we made the change when we did. Plus, Andi needs the sound machine on and her daddy hates it! Me? I love that thing and miss having it on all night.

Daddy is always spoiling her with new toys!

12274410_10206541647437976_9063155740788195820_n

Daddy’s hockey games are a definite workout with this little monkey. She has a love/hate relationship with the games (and so do I, haha). She loves “watching” and looking around but when the boys score it’s full on tears! The rink gets very loud and she is not about that. We love looking for daddy at the end of a win to give us a wave.

12246821_10206489358770792_9198137982260624742_n

(we don’t always wear PJ’s to daddy’s games but…. sometimes we have accidents, oops!) – My mom sent over a bunch of Pj’s less than two months ago and she is already growing out of all of them! Yikes, they grow SO fast.

Andi & Indy are so much fun too watch. They really recognize eachother now and soon will be able to sit and play. They are besties! We love them.

11200772_10206511383281391_7158453180817539390_n

Andi’s next appointment is in January for her next round of shots. We will get an update on all her “stats” and I can’t wait to see how much she has grown since all her last measurements.

She is a very happy, smiley baby but she has bad days too. Babies are always changing so the next day might not be like the last. You never know what you are going to get, they like to keep it exciting…and exhausting! We are just happy that she is healthy and growing. Jerry and I are loving being parents to this little monkey. Our life has changed so much the last 5.5 months but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Plus, watching your husband love on his daughter? Nothing better. Heart explodes everyday. Being a mommy is hard work and definitely the most emotional ride I’ve ever been on. No idea how we’ve made it almost half of a year with a little human but we are doing it! Pat on the back.

I love catching you all up on Andi since we are so far away. Stayed tuned, who knows what this little one will be up too next month. Big hugs to everyone at home.

XO

3 vs 1 – It’s A Girl!

Yupp. It’s true… baby Kuhn is a girl.

ak1

Our baby shower was this past weekend and Jerry was dying to reveal what we are having. I gave in because he asked so nicely… 150 times. I found this cute sign at Micheal’s for $7.00. We put it in a gift bag and my girlfriend handed it to us as the last gift (she was in on the secret). We pulled out the sign and everyone started going wild! No one thought we were having a girl, except my grandma and my mother in law. Even strangers that my mom would ask in public when I was with her, told her boy. So, she was so convinced. Now, I’m glad we revealed because seeing everyone’s faces and happiness was truly the best thing ever.

The day we found out we were having a girl (feels like forever ago) was incredible. I have always selfishly prayed for a “family like mine”. A girl first, two boys after. However, God is probably going to use this as pay back and give me three girls because I was such a horrible teenager and my mother prays on it daily. It’s okay, I deserve it. I think naturally any guy hopes for a little boy but there is nothing like a dad and his daughter. Jerry’s so in love already, I can’t wait until she actually arrives. He jokes about having 3 women in the house now (me, miika and baby) but secretly I think he’s in love with the fact that he has three women to cater too.

Of course now that we announced the gender everyone is wanting to know a name. Stop. You aren’t getting it. Wasn’t the gender enough? Let me have a secret peeps! 😉

Our shower was amazing. As most people know, Jerry and I did not have a wedding. So, my mom wanted to make sure our shower was extra special. She really out did herself and made it so amazing. She hates that my favorite colors are black and white and that I’m a control freak… but we made it work…. together. ❤

ak2 ak3

Told you she did awesome.

I can’t thank her enough for making Jerry and I feel so special! Also to everyone else that helped that day and to everyone that ‘welcomed’ baby Kuhn to the world. You made us feel so loved and special! XO

Does it feel like I’ve been pregnant forever?

Everyone here at home says, “wow that flew by”. Naturally because they’ve only got to spend about 2 months of my pregnancy with me. It’s no secret I’ve loved being pregnant but DAMN. Has it felt like 2 years. I think it’s mostly because I got pregnant at the beginning of our hockey season. So it felt like a life time (in hockey seasons).

I have continued to feel really great through my third trimester. Miika and I get up every morning at 6:30 and do our morning walk before I head to work and then again with Jerry after work! I firmly believe that staying active (even though I dropped the weights around 26 weeks) has left me feeling amazing pretty much my whole pregnancy. The only complaint I have is, sleep. What is sleep? No idea. These bags under my eyes tell the same story. A few weeks back I started my weekly NST’s (non stress tests). So, I get to see my aunt (who is my nurse) twice a week! 🙂 Now I also see the doctor for a visit once a week since I hit 35 weeks. Last week we had a growth ultra sound to see where baby is at. Head is down and in position. Estimated weight was 6.4 but who knows now! I was a big baby, so I’m wondering if this baby is going to be my mini me and also be 9 lbs. It was Jerry’s first time back to the doctor with me since we got home from Italy. Baby was playing with her (her/she still sound weird to me!) toes and had both hands and feet on my left side during my ultra sound. It was cute! It’s been awhile since we seen her face because usually during ultra sounds she likes to cover her face. Not this time around! And boy were we shocked. She has turned into her daddy! Which I don’t mind. Since he has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen and cute chubby cheeks.

Blowing kisses!

Next week I will be checked to see if I’m dilated at all and how I’m progressing!

I had my maternity photos done a few weeks ago. They aren’t all finished yet but my sneak peeks were amazing! A huge shout out to Amanda @ SKP! I’m 33.5 weeks in my maternity photos.

AK4

LOVE! Can’t wait for the rest… especially the ones with Miika and Jerry.

I feel like Jerry and I never stop going. We had different plans of course and for awhile I was making Sunday’s “our days” where we just spend time at home. It’s nearly impossible with family wanting to see you while you are home for three months. I’m constantly feeling the need to please everyone but I know I should be thankful for all the family we have.

We are always up to something…

We got to spend Memorial Weekend at my girlfriends lakehouse and finally catch some sun. You don’t realize how pale the Italian alps make you until you get your first sun of the summer. Holy burnt. It was a great, relaxing time with friends and family.

ak

I was a tropper and stayed out with these party animals until 2 am!

ak7

My little brother graduated 8th grade (and I forgot my dad’s birthday…which was the same day…pregnancy brain).

ak6

Baby and I got to jam at Taylor Swift with Aunt Lola…. star struck like a 10 year old.

ak5

We got our new set of wheels! Hooray! Miika and I are going to be practicing this whole baby + dog thing the next 3 weeks.

ak9

Now is just a waiting game on baby! We can’t wait to meet her. Well, first I need to get my hospital bag packed. It’s on my weekend to do list. Then she can come! 🙂 I just wanted to get caught up a little bit and blog about a few things I hope to never forget. I will be sad to say “bye” to my first pregnancy (to the point it makes me an emotional mess) but I’m sure I will be so consumed then, it won’t even matter anymore.

Hope everyone is enjoying sweet summertime. XO

30 Weeks Pregnant

I’m 30 weeks pregnant!

Wow. When did that happen? I had planned to write a lot more throughout my pregnancy but life happens. Our last couple of weeks in Bruneck were quite busy with playoffs and then before we knew it we were packing up our 4th hockey home and shipping out to the USA. Since being home we’ve been busy with seeing familiar faces and I Jumped right back in to work. The week we returned home I turned 25. Yep. That happened. I turned 25. My mom, little brother, grandparents, Jerry and I had dinner at my favorite pizza place – Buddy’s. My mom surprised me with specially made cupcakes (because I hate Birthday cake). I had a carrot cake one because my mom is the best and remembered me saying a few days earlier that I was craving carrot cake? I didn’t even remember. But, totally something my mom would remember. She’s pretty awesome. Jerry also had a birthday right before we moved home, the big guy is officially 29!

So much has changed in these last ten weeks since I last wrote about my pregnancy.

22 weeks!

10407316_10204866238633803_8524966915198853144_n

22 weeks was about the first week I even looked slightly pregnant. Unless people knew themselves, no one had any idea I was carrying a baby around in there. I could still get away with pretending that was not a human baby but a “food baby”. At 22 weeks I was still hitting the weights and cardio with Jerry. It has really helped with my pregnancy (or so I believe). My dreams were getting more and more crazy/vivid at this point. I was waking up almost every night around 3 or 4 in the morning to eat, because I was starving. Baby Kuhn and I would sit up in bed, enjoying a bowl of whatever cereal I craved that week, watching soon to be daddy and big sister snore away. There was something about that hour in the middle of the night that I secretly loved. I felt like the whole world was asleep, everything was so quiet. It was just me, the baby and this bowl of cereal. I’d look over at Jerry and Miika snuggled away in dream land and think of how lucky we all are and how awesome life is about to get. My cereal addiction/late night waking up to eat ended at about 24/25 weeks.

Around 24 weeks I really started feeling baby kuhn kick me. I had a little before but this little baby really started making a move around then! I could never get Jerry to catch the moves and kicks at first. The first time he did was so funny. Like, we actually laughed really hard. Jerry had his hand on my stomach and the baby kicked… and Jerry goes, “WOAH!!!!” and just started giggling. Baby was moving A LOT at Jerry’s hockey games, I’m assuming from all of the noise. Also, when I’m working out. At this point I was still feeling pretty amazing, not many complaints. One of the only things I can remember from this time frame was cooking Jerry’s lunch made me so sick. The smell of cooking chicken/pork was killer! So strange. Miika and I were enjoying our last weeks with our mountain views on our morning/afternoon/night walks.

16 vs. 24 weeks!

14227_10204959158676746_8086601112714793435_n

Around 26 weeks, right before we left Bruneck I started to show more. There was no question that I was pregnant now! I started getting more smiles from strangers at the gym when they would look down and see my belly. Baby Kuhn was showered with a lot of gifts from our friends in Italy before leaving. Our last Sunday in Brunico we spent up on the ski mountain with friends. The sun was shining so bright and it was so warm. The perfect last day on the mountain!

14900_10205023994417599_9210492162642510336_n

Flying home at 26 weeks was hard. I thought with how easy going my pregnancy has been it would be much easier. I wasn’t worried a bit. WRONG. It did not help that it was the worst travel day we’ve ever had. Delays, almost missed planes, stress. I had to get up almost every 30-40 minutes and walk the entire plane once we were on our long haul, 10 hour flight. My legs and feet kept falling asleep after sitting too long. The flight attendants were so helpful and ended up just giving me giant bottles of water for my flight. I was doing yoga in the kitchen areas and probably peed 155 times. Poor Jerry couldn’t stay asleep because I had to constantly get up. By the time we landed in America, I was just happy we made it home safe after all the flight/weather complications in Germany. But, the thing I will never ever look forward to in the future: flying pregnant.

28 weeks!

1

Finally home. Obviously our family and friends were patiently waiting for me to get home so they could see and/or rub (UGH!!) my belly. I hate when people touch me. I’m not an affectionate person so this has been difficult. I have pretty much let everyone touch once and then I say, “okay that’s enough”. My family probably expected this from me.  Adjusting to home this spring has been harder than past years. I’m not sure why. All of the food I was craving and so excited to eat, was much less appetizing than I thought. It’s funny how much our taste buds change while overseas. I’ve been to my doctor twice now since being home. She wanted to see me for a full exam and to get all my paperwork from Italy. Then my second appointment I had to get the Rhogam shot because I have 0- blood. In two weeks I start my every two-week appointments and stress tests two days a week. I think the means we are “in the final stretch”! I’ve had a couple of people make comments, “oh aren’t you so ready to get that baby out of there”? Which I find annoying. I’ve loved being pregnant (I know I still have 9-10 weeks left and don’t know if I’ll be saying that when I’m closer) but I am in no way rushing the rest of my pregnancy or “want this baby out”. You are only pregnant the first time ONCE. So, I’m really trying to love every second. It actually makes me sad that in 10 weeks I won’t be pregnant anymore. It’s crazy when you stop to think that this will be the last time I’m ever “alone” in my life.

People are SO nice to pregnant people. That has been so funny too me. I’ll catch random strangers when I’m shopping, just smiling and looking at my stomach. No one at work let’s me pick up or move ANYTHING. Lol! You pretty much get a free pass from anything that requires “work”. I’m embracing my weekends with Jerry and Miika (possibly only 10 more left, on our own)! Saturday’s Jerry and I like to go out to dinner and maybe see some friends after. Sundays are for Tim Horton’s and grocery shopping, enjoying the sun when it decides to come out.

I have to say that I’m really disappointed in how a lot of people have acted towards me wanting to keep the baby’s gender a secret. I don’t know when it became a necessity for everyone to know what a couple is having or why it’s so hard for people to understand that I think it’s just special for Jerry and I to know. I thought it would be so fun for everyone to find out when baby Kuhn decides to make his/her debut to the world but I guess I was wrong.

I’m officially 30 weeks today and feeling pretty good! Some things I’m experiencing:

My weight gain is healthy (but really really difficult to watch go up every week). The baby is healthy (hoping he/she isn’t as big as me – 9 lbs! yikes!). Just a few days ago my ankles started to swell a little bit. My legs and feet fall asleep really quickly if I sit too long. Sleep… what is sleep? Lol! Kidding. I do sleep but I’m about every hour peeing. Probably because I drink at least a gallon of water every single day. I have to switch sides while I’m sleeping each time I wake up. Most of my weight is on my hips and I can only sleep on my sides so, after a while my side that I’ve been sleeping on starts to ache! If Jerry catches me on my back he rolls me over. Haha! I can’t remember S***. Jerry says I have mashed potato brains. I thought that was all a fluke but pregnancy brain is for real. The emotional part of pregnancy hit me this trimester. Nonetheless, I’m still feeling good and h-a-p-p-y! Miika and I walk 40 minutes every morning and at night. We aren’t quite as fast as pre-pregnancy but hey, as long as we are getting those miles in! I’m still doing a little bit of weights but not quite as much as a few weeks ago. I bought my first pair of pregnancy jeans and a couple of tops to get me through these last ten weeks. Why are maternity clothes so expensive? I guess the good part is I can fold them and store them away for the next pregnancy.

Some of my favorite things: ice cubes, slurpees, fruit and long warm showers.

The baby shower is only 5 weeks away! So excited to have my family and friends there and shower baby Kuhn! In a couple of weeks we will do my maternity photos. Hoping it warms up by then. Until then, enjoying these last 10 or so weeks as being my own person.

Jerry and I are so excited!!!! XO

I hope to update at least one more time before baby comes. I love having all of this too look back on.

Until next time,

Spouses In Sports – Europe

I was recently asked to write a blog post for Spouses In Sports (a private community for professional sport families).

I wanted to share it with all of you who are not a part of the community.

 photo_12

Leaving Pieces of my Heart in Europe
by Amanda Kuhn, wife of Jerry Kuhn, Goalie for Olimpija Ljubljana of the EBEL League, Austria

The past two hockey seasons we have lived in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Krefeld, Germany. I’m often asked, “Where is your favorite place you have traveled to in Europe”? This question is always difficult for me, considering I’ve been to many beautiful places in Europe the past two years. There are still so many places and things I want to see overseas. I’ve made a memory in every place I’ve been – they are all special to me for different reasons. It could have been the food, the people, the atmosphere, or something fun I did while I was in that place. Whenever I visit a new city, I like to stop for a few minutes and take it all in. I don’t want to bring home a pamphlet or a post card – I want that memory to stick in my head forever.

When you play overseas, you usually get a “November Break” and an “Olympic Break” (and maybe some other odd breaks thrown in there). This gives you time to head out with your boyfriend/hubby and venture out to somewhere new! During the season I always like to catch a few away games – at least if they are in a city worth exploring but sometimes even the atmosphere of a new rink is worth the drive. I don’t do this often because my husband is a goalie, and let’s just say my traveling on game days isn’t in his, “routine” (he’ll tell you he’s not superstitious.) Anyway, I’ve been quite a few places the past two years. Probably a lot of small towns most people haven’t heard of. I’ve never been to Paris or Rome but to be honest, I don’t think those places compare to the “hidden gems” of Europe.

When I was asked to write this post, I started thinking of my two favorite places I’ve “traveled” to in Europe. There was no way I could write this post and not choose Ljubljana, Slovenia as one of my favorite places, I just couldn’t. It holds such a big piece of my heart because it was our first “home” in Europe and a place that changed me in ways I never thought possible. Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, and a beautiful one at that. My first week in Europe was one of the hardest weeks of my entire life. I cried, I cried and I cried some more. I hated it, I wanted to go home, I wanted someone to speak English to me at the grocery store, I just wanted to fall apart. Time went on and I started to adapt, I started to love my new home. I realized I lived in one of the most beautiful countries in the entire world and I embraced it. I became close with a lot of Slovenians, on our hockey team and outside of hockey. Jerry and I started volunteering at a children’s center, where underprivileged children go after school, twice a week, sometimes more. I fell in love with the fact that a good bottle of wine only costs me $3 and that I could live off both that and cheese. I fell in love with the people that took me in as family (I didn’t love the cranky grandmas, but that’s all over Europe!). Ljubljana itself is a beautiful city and good for any expat/tourist. It’s a huge city – there is shopping, there is good food, there are a lot of sites to see (the castle, the river that runs through downtown, the “pink church”, the dragon bridge) just to name a few! If you ever get a chance to go to Slovenia you will want to see Ljubljana, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Postjona Caves (seriously look them up!), and the sea side of course. I feel sLOVENia!

My second favorite place would be Venice, Italy. It could be because I got the surprise of a life time there – my husband proposing to me on a gondola! However, I’ve been back three times after that surprise and fell in love all over, each time. Venice has such character, and is so different than what you picture it to be. I always feel like I’m in a movie when I’m walking the streets of Venice. I used to dream about going to Italy when I was younger, and then somehow my life put me just a short two hour drive away from one of the most well-known cities in Italy. While in Venice you have to have a cup of coffee or glass of wine in St. Marks Square! If you are able to travel there during The Venice Carnival, you must (usually held in late January-February)! It is a tradition held every year in and it is definitely something to see/take part in! You can’t leave Venice without taking a ride on a gondola in the Adriatic Sea. The people, the food, the sights are truly something special. My advice is to drop the maps, and get lost! You definitely won’t have a hard time finding a hotel, and almost everyone can speak enough English to get you where you are trying to go. Venice should be at the top of your list for a place to see.

I can only hope that everyone gets to see the beauty of Europe at least once in their lifetime. Living in Europe and traveling has definitely shaped me into the person I am and the person I’m supposed to be. For that, I am thankful. “Live, travel, adventure, bless, and don’t be sorry”
